MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang confirmed a reported statement from Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) that the President has tasked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the PDEA.

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda, however, did not specify the scope of the investigation.

"There was a question, 'Is the PDEA being investigated?' The President just confirmed to us and Secretary Carandang that yes, the answer is. As to what the details are, we don't have any details," Lacierda said on Wednesday.

We confirm that, that PDEA is being investigated."

The Palace stood by the President's decision to relieve PDEA deputy Director General Carlos Gadapan but declined to specify the reason.
