Bayan Muna wants probe on roots of Zambo siege
MANILA - Bayan Muna wants a congressional investigation into the conflict between some Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) fighters and government forces in Zamboanga City.
In Resolution 302, Bayan Muna asked the committee on peace, reconciliation and unity to conduct an inquiry in aid of legislation on the reported decision of the government to stop the tripartite review of the 1996 Peace Agreement--said to be the cause of the raging armed conflict in Zamboanga City. The resolution says the government has denied terminating the review.
Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Teresita Deles has said the government has a proposal to complete the review. However, that proposal has not been acted upon by the tripartite review body since a meeting scheduled last Monday did not push through since MNLF Chair Nur Misuari was unavailable. No new date has been set for a meeting.
The resolution was filed by Bayan Muna Representatives Carlos Zarate and Neri Colmenares. The resolution also said the investigation should also look into the humanitarian crisis caused by the conflict.
