MANILA, Philippines - Senator Ralph Recto says he does not know any coup plot against Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.

He said the Liberal Party is behind Enrile’s leadership. "I don't know of any power struggle in the Senate. Wala akong alam diyan. Di ako kasali diyan.”

He dispelled reports that a resolution from the Nacionalista Party against Enrile has started to circulate, and that it has already reached the Liberal Party.

"Matalik kong kaibigan si Senator Villar (Nacionalista). Kung totoo yan, baka nabulungan ako. Wala akong nalalaman,” he said.

Recto said he himself is not interested in the Senate presidency. "May anak pa akong 16-anyos. Kailangan ko ng oras sa kanya."

Recto stressed he is satisfied with Enrile's performance. “I think he's done a very good job. I cannot do his job. Especially [what he did] during the impeachment. He's done a very good job of leading the Senate…”

Recto expressed doubts that the ongoing word war between Enrile and Senator Antonio Trillanes, who admitted to planning the ouster of Enrile, has affected the Senate as an institution.

He also dismissed Trillanes’ allegation that the bill dividing the province of Camarines Sur is being railroaded. Trillanes said he lost his confidence in Enrile because of his alleged deals with former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, whose son stands to gain from the passage of the bill.

Meanwhile, Recto said the executive will have to do some thing after yesterday's word war, which may have an impact on Philippine relations with China. “Posible na pinagtatawanan tayo sa nangyayari. Kailangan liwanagin sa kanila ang posisyon natin."

Recto also supported President Aquino's decision to send Secretary Mar Roxas to China as a special envoy to an event being held there. "Kung makakatulong si Mar at utos ng pangulo, that's the call of the president."
