Trillanes reminded: You're no longer in the military
MANILA, Philippines - A close ally of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile in the Senate lashed out at Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV for saying Enrile should be removed as leader of the chamber.
"Baka akala niya nasa military pa rin siya," Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada told reporters on Thursday, referring to Trillanes. "He has to reform himself."
"Ang lakas naman ng loob niya," he added.
Enrile said he's ready to step down if anybody musters enough support to replace him.
Enrile reiterated his usual stand he won't cling to the Senate presidency.
"My God, anytime," he said. "If he (Trillanes) wants to aspire for Senate President, by all means."
"In politics, you cannot always be sure of your political position," Enrile added. "Even now, I don't care if public opinion will go against me, but I will take on anyone who is going to raise an issue with me. Maiwan sa amin kung sino ang matibay."
Enrile also said he's not conducting a loyalty check among his fellow senators.
