Napoles wants arraignment transferred to Fort Sto Domingo
MANILA - Citing security and logistical reasons, the camp of businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles filed an urgent motion this morning to move the arraignment of Napoles from Makati Regional Trial Court to Fort Sto. Domingo in Santa Rosa, Laguna.
Napoles is set to be arraigned at 1:30 this afternoon at the Makati RTC branch 150 for serious illegal detention charges filed by pork scam whistle-blower Benhur Luy against her and brother Reynald Lim.
In her appeal, her lawyers led by Lorna Kapunan said, "the production of Janet Lim Napoles before the Makati RTC will unnecessarily expose her life and security to grave and imminent danger more so now that plunder charges have been filed against many influential elected officials.”
Napoles is currently detained at the home base of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force.
They also noted "there would be less difficulty and logistical expenses involved when the arraignment is held in Fort Sto Domingo."
Speaking off cam to reporters, clerk of court Atty Diosfa Valencia said they would have to refer the motion to the Supreme Court, as they have no jurisdiction in Fort Sto. Domingo.
She said that there is no way that Judge Elmo Alameda will travel to Fort Sto Domingo for Napoles' arraignment.
