MANILA, Philippines - The Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats is still a force to be reckoned with, its president Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. said.

During a fiesta celebrating his birthday in his native Bacoor City in Cavite, Revilla said Lakas-CMD will support select senatorial candidates from both the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) and the Liberal Party (LP) in the May 2013 midterm elections.

He said he will soon meet with partymates to pick who the party will carry.

Revilla said that at the local level, the party already issued certificates of nomination and acceptance to over 2,000 candidates. This is why Lakas should not be belittled, he said.

Lakas CMD was the ruling party that carried and sustained Presidents Fidel Ramos and Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Revilla also expressed his support for former Lakas stalwart and former Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, who is seeking a new term at the Senate this time under UNA.

Revilla endorsed Zubiri at the Bacoor fiesta today. Revilla described Zubiri as a good friend and ally in passing laws.

Zubiri, for his part, promised Caviteños a flagship project should he be elected again.

‘Let me try again’

Zubiri said his theme song now is "Let me Try Again" by Frank Sinatra.

Zubiri disclosed the UNA will meet today to decide who will fill in the slot in the UNA slate vacated by Governor Gwen Garcia.

He said he is elated by his improvement in surveys from number 14 to number 9. He hopes his continued trips around the country as well as the endorsement of Estrada, Binay and Enrile will help him reclaim his Senate seat.

Aside from Zubiri, Revilla also endorsed the candidacies of re-electionist Governor Johnvic Remulla, board member Jolo Revilla for vice governor, Lani Mercado Revilla as congresswoman and Strike Revilla as Mayor of Bacoor.

Strike defended the existence of the Revilla dynasty in the province, saying it is ultimately up to the people to know and decide who best advances their interests.

Cavite politics is dominated by the Revillas, Remullas and the Maliksis.

Jolo revilla will be challenged by another senator's son, Ronald Jay lacson, son of senator Panfilo Lacson.

Jay Lacson will run as running mate of former governor, now congressman Erineo Maliksi.

Senator Revilla sees no conflict between him and Senator Lacson, saying it's up to the people of Cavite to decide.
