Senate, House ratify SK poll bicam report
MANILA (UPDATE) – The Senate and the House of Representatives have ratified the bicameral report on the postponement of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
Senator Bongbong Marcos said during Tuesday morning's bicam meeting, members agreed to hold the next SK elections between October 28, 2014 and February 23, 2015 to be determined by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
The consolidated version states that there will be no hold over for the current SK officials and no appointments for the vacated posts.
Marcos said this is their way of rejecting patronage politics.
He added that the 10% allotment for the SK funds coming from the internal revenue allotment will still be used for youth development.
Senator Chiz Escudero, meanwhile, voted against the ratification of the bicam report saying doing this is essentially abolishing the SK for 1 whole year, while Senator Alan Peter Cayetano abstained.
The bill will be enrolled and a clean copy will be sent to the Office of the President for his signature.
