Maceda confirms UNA wooing Tingting for 2013
Binay daughter, Gatchalian out of the race?
MANILA, Philippines - Former Tarlac Governor Margarita “Tingting” Cojuangco, the aunt of President Benigno Aquino III, has been asked to join the Senatorial slate of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) of Vice President Jejomar Binay and former President Joseph Estrada.
Former Senate President Ernesto Maceda, himself an UNA candidate, told ANC Cojuangco's family has not decided if she will accept the UNA slot.
Others who were eyed to join the ticket are Binay's daughter, Nancy, and Valenzuela Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian.
Maceda said, however, “my impression up to yesterday is that the Vice President is not inclined to allow his daughter to run for politics [for] personal reasons…[on the other hand] there is no support for Mayor Sherwin because he's way below in the surveys, even way below me, even Mitos [Magsaysay] and Joey de Venecia.”
He said the most probable candidate is Cojuangco.
Meanwhile, Maceda believes former President Gloria Arroyo is no longer a factor in next year's elections.
“With due respect to my former friend…I don't think she is a factor in this election anymore. She's not a factor in the sense that she can help a candidate win. She's not a factor in the sense that she's no longer a negative issue that anybody who's identified with her would suffer public rejection,” he said.
He added Arroyo is now perceived to be more focused on her health. - from ANC
