Classes, work suspended in most of Luzon
MANILA, Philippines - Classes in all levels and work in government offices have been suspended throughout most of Luzon Tuesday as Typhoon Pedring continues its assault.
The Department of Education (DepEd) suspended all classes in primary and secondary levels in Metro Manila, as the metropolis was placed under public storm warning Signal Number 2.
Based on DepEd's guidelines, classes in pre-school, elementary and high school in public and private schools are automatically suspended if signal number 2 is hoisted over an area.
Authorities have also suspended classes in the primary and secondary levels in Regions 1,2,3, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Region 4A (Calabarzon), Occidental Mindoro in Region 4B.
Classes in colleges and universities in the National Capital Region (NCR), Regions 1, 2, 3 and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) have also been suspended.
College classes in the provinces of Batangas, Cavite, Rizal and Laguna are likewise suspended.
Government offices
Work is also suspended in government offices in NCR, Regions 1, 2, 3 and CAR, as well as in the provinces of Batangas, Cavite, Rizal and Laguna, according to presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda.
The Supreme Court (SC) also announced the suspension of work in Metro Manila courts due to Typhoon Pedring, according to Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez.
The Senate and House of Representatives have also called off work due to the bad weather.
Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte also announced the suspension of work in all executive branch offices, except those involved in emergency services.
Marquez said it is up to Executive Judges to declare suspension of work in courts outside of Metro Manila.
