De Lima eyes contempt raps vs Napoles lawyer
MANILA – Justice Secretary Leila de Lima wants the lawyer of Janet Napoles, Atty. Lorna Kapunan, cited for contempt of court for showing evidence to the media.
De Lima on Saturday said she has instructed the prosecutors to file a petition before the Makati court seeking that Kapunan be cited for contempt.
“Her actuation right after coming out of the courtroom during a break was clearly violative of the sub judice rule," the justice secretary said.
Kapunan on Friday showed to the media photos grabbed from footage of a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera at the Pacific Plaza Tower, where pork barrel scam whistleblower Benhur Luy was allegedly detained by Napoles and her brother.
Kapunan tried to present the same evidence at the hearing proper, but it was denied by presiding judge Elmo Alameda.
