Bro. Eddie Villanueva to announce 2010 plans on Sunday
Born-again leader Bro. Eddie Villanueva of the Jesus Is Lord (JIL) group said his Bangon Pilipinas party will announce its political plans for 2010 during the group's 30th anniversary at the Luneta Park in Manila on Sunday, October 5.
"There is pressure from the executive committee of Bangon Pilpinas party for us to make a public answer to that question because the Bangon Pilipinas Party has been receiving many questions along that line. So the decision could be made public by Sunday, October 5," said Villanueva, who was in the House of Representatives this afternoon to receive a congressional commendation for JIL.
Asked by ABS-CBN News if he would consider running again for president for 2010, Villanueva had a rhetorical question as an answer, adding he will just follow what the Lord will ask him to do.
"Do you think the Filipino people are ready to elect a genuine reformist president at this point in time? So, pardon me to answer your question by way of asking: Do you think the Filipino people are now ready to elect a genuine reformist president?'" he said.
He also posed a question on whether the current electoral process "could allow and respect the sovereign right of the Filipino people to exercise their right of suffrage by electing their national leaders according to their conscience and conviction."
He asked the media if the Filipino people can elect their leaders without the usual practices of "lutong Macau" or elections that are rigged and whose results would eventually favor those in power.
Asked if he if he is thinking of running for president again, Villanueva said, "I'm not thinking. I'm just a servant of God you know. Whatever the Lord wants to do in my life, I will do."
"What I'm saying is that we should work together for the overhauling of the electoral system, giving our people a chance for the first time in history to choose their leaders not according to money politics, but according to principles and convictions," he added. -- Williard Cheng, ABS-CBN News
