Chiz files COC, eyes campaign through social media
MANILA, Philippine - Senator Francis Escudero was the 1st to file his certificate of candidacy among incumbent senators on Day 2 of the filing of COCs for the midterm elections.
Speaking to reporters, Escudero said he will heavily use social media, instead of going on political rallies, to promote his re-election bid.
He also said he will not commit to campaign exclusively with the Liberal Party since he is an independent adopted by the ruling party as well as the United Nationalist Alliance.
Speaking to ANC, Escudero said he has not joined any political party after bolting the Nationalist People's Coalition in 2009.
"I filed as an independent without joining any political party dahil naniniwala ako na mas malaya kong makikita ang dapat kong gawin as an independent kaysa miembro ng isang partido na pwedeng diktahan kaliwa man o kanan sa partikular na mga issues," he said.
Asked why he did not join the UNA candidates in filing his COC yesterday at 1 p.m., he said the schedule was in conflict with the LP's event baring its list of senatorial candidates.
He also noted: "Kanya-kanyang feng shui, kanya-kanyang paniniwala yun sa petsa ng pag-file. Hindi naman siguro madidikta yun ng sinumang partido."
Escudero said that before filing his COC, he had breakfast with Vice-President Jejomar Binay to personally thank him for including him in the UNA line-up as a guest candidate. Escudero previously supported Binay's bid for the vice-presidency in 2010.
Escudero, meanwhile, balked when asked about possible wedding plans after reportedly dating actress Heart Evangelista.
He said he has no plans yet on Evangelista's role in his campaign.
Meanwhile, Las Pinas Rep. Cynthia Villar and MTRCB chairwoman Grace Poe Llamanzares are expected to file their COCs later today.
On Wednesday. Senator Antonio Trillanes, Aurora Rep. Sonny Angara and independent candidate Teddy Casino will also file their COCs separately.
On Thursday, former senator Ramon "Jun" Magsaysay Jr. will file his COC . President Aquino's cousin, Paolo Benigno "Bam" Aquino, is expected to file his COC on Friday. With reports from ANC and RG Cruz, ABS-CBNnews.com
