UNA blasts 'political hypocrites'
MANILA, Philippines - The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) blasted the "political hypocrites" in the administration for casting its line-up as the opponents of real reform in government.
In a statement, UNA Secretary General Toby Tiangco said the coalition is not the opponent but "poverty and hunger."
"UNA should be seen as a partner of the Aquino administration. We are not obstructionist critics. We will support and commend programs and policies that will benefit our people. But we will also point out shortcomings and misguided policies. This we owe to the people," he said.
He said serving Aquino's reform agenda is through "responsible vigilance" and not "blind obedience."
This is why Tiangco criticized personalities in the administration "who are attempting to recast themselves as true-blue believers in reform and good governance."
He noted "these are the rabid defenders of [former President Gloria Arroyo] when she was in power, but have found it politically convenient to wear yellow and proclaim themselves as advocates of Tuwid na Daan."
'They know themselves'
Tiangco went on to say that the "political hypocrites" know who they are.
He added they are those who ridicule previously the candidacy of the late Fernando Poe Jr. and then went on to block or kill the impeachment complaint filed against Arroyo.
UNA, he said, has always been supportive of Aquino's reform agenda.
