Court: Padaca can be arrested anytime
MANILA, Philippines - The Sandiganbayan today reminded arresting officers that the arrest warrant against former Isabela Governor Grace Padaca remains standing for her P25 million malversation case filed by former Isabela congressman, Santiago Respicio.
Atty. Ruth Ferrer of the Sandiganbayan Legal Division said Padaca has yet to post bail for the case. The bail bond amounts to P40,000 for malversation and P30,000 for graft.
In previous interviews, Padaca said her refusal to post bail is a sign of protest. She filed a motion for certiorari at the Supreme Court to question the probable cause of the case.
Ferrer, however, said the Supreme Court has yet to rule on Padaca’s petition. She said all trials and arrest warrants concerning the case will continue unless the Court issues a temporary restraining order.
The National Bureau of Investigation and Criminal Investigation-Detection Group in Isabela tried to serve the warrant in June and July but failed to find Padaca in her last known address.
Ferrer said the warrant knows no territory and that Padaca can be arrested anytime or anywhere. She added though that the ball is in the hands of the arresting officers and that they are allowed to decide on how and where they want to do the arrest.
