(UPDATE) DepEd may cancel sem break; Christmas break still on
MANILA - The Department of Education (DepEd) clarified on Monday that it would not be cancelling the Christmas break this December, but is still considering the cancellation of the semestral break for elementary and secondary schools affected by the floods.
This comes as classes in all levels in Metro Manila resumed on Monday except in some areas where schools are still flooded or are being used as evacuation centers.
In a media advisory, the DepEd said that make up classes in affected schools may be scheduled during Saturdays to complete the 204 school days required for one school year.
Meanwhile, the DepEd earlier said that it plans to cancel the upcoming semestral break of elementary and high school students to make up for lost school days.
In flood-hit Marikina, 11 schools have re-opened. But instead of holding classes, some teachers and students ended up cleaning flood-damaged classrooms.
Several schools in Pasig City also resumed classes on Monday.
Among these schools are: Manggahan Elementary School, Dela Paz Elementary School, San Lorenzo Ruiz Elementary School, Napico Elementary School, Caniogan Elementary School
Classes in Luzon resumed except in flood-hit areas.
Classes from the preschool to high school levels in other parts of Luzon have restarted, except in Cagayan, Tuguegarao, Quirino and parts of Isabela which were hit by typhoon Pepeng. -- With a report from ANC
