Cayetano files COC
MANILA, Philippines - Administration candidate Alan Peter Cayetano also filed his certificate of candidacy for the 2013 senatorial election before noon today.
He was accompanied by his wife, Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano.
The re-electionist senator said he chose to file his COC today, World Teachers’ Day, to pay tribute to his mother and grandmother who are both teachers.
Cayetano admitted he was initially uncomfortable about running alongside former Senator Jamby Madrigal.
Before the 2010 elections, Madrigal had accused Cayetano of protecting his Nacionalista party-mate, Manuel Villar, whom she alleged was behind the controversial C5 Road Extension project.
“Magiging ipokrito ako kung sasabihin kong hindi ko iniisip ang mga maaaring na debate at maiinit na diskusyon sa loob ng Senado katulad nung nangyari noong 2009 bago mag eleksyon but then that's the essence of democracy,” he told ANC.
“Minsan mas magaganda ang maiinit na debate as long as prinsipyo naman yung pinaglalaban.”
Cayetano said it is important to amend the Cybercrime Law to allow candidates to use social media to campaign. He said this will level the playing field for those who may not have the money to place ads in traditional media.
