MANILA, Philippines -- Adding to the long list of celebrities seeking a political post in the 2013 mid-term elections, singer Victor Wood on Friday filed his candidacy to become senator.

Dubbed the country's "Jukebox King," Wood submitted his certificate of candidacy before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday afternoon. The veteran singer is seeking to run as senator under the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL).

The veteran singer first ran for the same post in 2007, but failed to land a seat.

Wood gained popularity in 1970s, when he released his first album, "In Despair." His singles in subsequent albums would become big hits, among them "Mr. Lonely" and "Release Me."

Aside from being a popular crooner, Wood also starred in a number of films under Sampaguita Pictures.
