MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Justice is urging the public to join the forum tomorrow, October 9, that will tackle the questionable provisions in the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
Justice Secretary Leila de Lima finally announced the time and venue for the forum, where criticisms and questions will be heard in the crafting of the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of the law.
She said the forum will start at 9:00 a.m. at the DOJ Multi-Purpose Building in Padre Faura, Manila.
Groups are now preparing to launch protests in time for the forum. On Monday morning, members of the press made a protest action in front of the DOJ office.
Besides the libel provision, groups have also questioned section 19 of the law, which gives de Lima the authority to restrict or block access to computer data.
The Justice Secretary was also tasked to set up a computer crimes unit, called the DOJ Cybercrime Office. This will be headed by Assistant Secretary Geronimo Sy. – from a report by Alex Calda, dzMM
