Plunder rap vs GMA not diversionary tactic - Palace
MANILA - Malacañang on Tuesday dismissed claims by the camp of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo that a plunder complaint against her for the alleged misuse of the Malampaya fund is a mere diversionary tactic on the part of the administration.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said the administration has been talking about the alleged misuse of the Malampaya fund for quite some time already.
"They know charges were forthcoming. We kept mum on details. This administration doesn't file cases for PR or diversionary tactics," she said.
Valte added that President makes sure any case filed against anybody should be able to stand for a conviction in court.
The former leader has denied any complicity in the alleged misuse of the funds.
Arroyo is detained at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center for a previous charge of plunder over the alleged misuse of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) funds.
The case is pending at the Sandiganbayan.
