Misuari, Malik, 63 others charged for Zambo siege
MANILA - The Department of Justice (DOJ) filed rebellion charges and charges for violations of international humanitarian laws against Moro Natl Liberation Front (MNLF) founding chairman Nur Misuari, MNLF commander Habier Malik, and 63 others in connection with the recent siege on Zamboanga City.
Justice Secretary Leila De Lima said the charges were filed last Monday with the Zamboanga City Regional Trial Court (RTC).
De Lima said the DOJ will formally ask the Supreme Court (SC) to order the transfer of the trial to Manila.
The DOJ will also urge the trial court to order the transfer of detention of the over 200 MNLF arrested during the siege to the PNP detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig City.
A month ago today, armed MNLF fighters marched in Zamboanga City with the objective of raising their Independent Bangsamoro Standard at City Hall.
Weeks of clashes with state security forces left at least 200 people dead.
