Lacierda disappointed with Joker, won't fight back
MANILA - Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda will no longer respond to criticism from former Senator Joker Arroyo amid the brewing controversy over the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP).
In a statement Tuesday, the former lawmaker said it is the indolence of the spokespersons which get the President into trouble. This is amid a word war between Arroyo and
Lacierda over the DAP, which was used to accelerate spending in 2011 and 2012.
Lacierda said: "Out of respect we will not respond to him. One of the reasons I studied law is I saw him during martial law years. I was very disappointed."
Lacierda countered Arroyo’s criticism of the DAP by pointing out Arroyo’s supposed silence on corruption scandals during the administration of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
"Nung tumakbo siyang senador, hinalal ko siya. Sabi niya: 'kung bad ka, lagot ka.' His performance during the Senate impeachment (of former president Joseph Estrada) was impressive. His slogan and campaign was one of a dragon. The expectation was for him to speak out against corruption. Bakit talamak corruption nung time ni GMA at walang dragon nagsasalita?"
Lacierda was legal counsel for NBN-ZTE deal whistleblower Jun Lozada, which rocked the past administration.
"Malaki respeto ko kay Senator Arroyo. Di ko siya babalikan at tawagin ng anong pangalan. Siya ang nagbansag na student council etong [administrasyon]. Student council lumaban sa corruption. His very advocacy this administration is practicing his slogan. That’s why we filed cases. I wish he was that vigorous," he said.
