The Department of Health on Friday declared 20 dairy products as safe for consumption after testing negative for melamine contamination.

In a press conference, Health Secretary Francisco Duque said the new batch brings to 69 the number of dairy products that have tested negative for melamine.

The 20 products are:

7. Cottage Milk Sweet Cream Butter Milk
8. Crisp Bean Chocolate
9. Crisp Chocolate Stone
10.  Dairy America Milk Powder Repacked
11. Dairy Kreem Skimmed Milk Powder
12. Dong Guan Bairong Coconut Biscuits
13. Farmland Milk Powder
14. Kiddie Soya Milk Egg Delight
15. La Crema (Puregold) Skimmed Milk Powder, Original
16. La Crema (Puregold) Skimmed Milk Powder, Regular

The DOH earlier identified Jolly Cow Slender High Calcium Low Fat Milk (1 liter), Greenfood Yili Fresh Milk and Mengniu Drink as having tested positive for melamine. Melamine, a chemical used for plastics, has been found in some infant formula manufactured by Chinese firms. Four Chinese infants have died while more than 50,000 have been hospitalized due to melamine poisoning.

Duque said the Bureau of Food and Drugs, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Bureau of Customs have formed a committee that will take care of the disposal of melamine-contaminated milk in the country.

He said the committee will decide whether it is more cost-efficient to dump the contaminated milk in a landfill or return it to Chin.

The issue of melamine contamination became the center of attention in the 9th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting with Chinese Vice Minister of Health Lui Quan explaining that the country is doing its best to contain the melamine contamination.
