PNoy: No intention to remove Paje
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Brunei Darussalam - President Aquino denied rumors that he is removing Environment Secretary Ramon Paje over alleged anomalies in the Philippine Forest Corp.
Speaking to reporters at the Philippine Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan, Aquino said it was the first time that he learned of reports that Paje is on his way out.
"That's new. I have no such idea and I have no such intention at this point," he said.
The President said he does not automatically remove Cabinet members who are accused of wrongdoing. In the case of Paje, he said no one has leveled a charge against the environment chief that warrants his removal.
"If there's a specific issue, we're happy to investigate it. If he's guilty of something, then we'll remove him or file the necessary charges. But, to date, I don't have a specific charge that anybody has leveled against him-that 'yung 'we investigate it' and said 'yeah, mukhang may basis ito," he said.
