Enrile unshaken by alleged Senate coup plot
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - Senator Juan Ponce Enrile on Thursday said he is taking in stride a new plot to unseat him as Senate president.
In an interview on radio dzMM, Enrile said he has been waiting to be replaced.
"Welcome sila eh if they change me or anytime," he said. "I've been waiting for that."
He said he has been ready for any coup plot since he became Senate president.
"I was waiting for that ever since I was sworn in as Senate president and I have always been waiting for my replacement," he said.
He added that he has not offered to share the position with other senators.
"Wala, you know, with the position like that, hindi subject for time sharing eh," Enrile said.
Senator Franklin Drilon earlier denied being involved in a fresh plot to unseat Enrile, amid scuttlebutt in the Senate that some 15 senators have already committed to oust Enrile. http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/nation/10/11/12/15-senators-want-jpe-ousted
Drilon confirmed there was a dinner in Malacañan where senators discussed the Anti-Money Laundering Law but there were no discussions about the Senate leadership.
"Ano ba naman kayo? No such thing [Senate coup]. There is no such thing. If there's any, I am not a participant and as late as last night we had dinner where Senator Enrile was around. How many times do I have to deny?" he said.
Drilon is a stalwart of the administration Liberal Party.
Rumors in the Senate claim that while there are enough senators to oust Enrile, not all of them are for Drilon. - with a report from RG Cruz, ABS-CBN News
