Palace won't meddle in parties' accreditations
MANILA, Philippines - Malacanang refused to dip its hands on the issue of several party-list groups who were disqualified by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) from further participation in the forthcoming 2013 elections.
"The Comelec is an independent agency. We will have to rely on their expertise and their discretion to decide which party-list groups should be included or excluded from the election and we are in no way able to or allowed to influence the decision of the Comelec," said Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda.
Comelec earlier disqualified 13 incumbent party-list groups, including 2010 topnotcher Ako Bicol, from participating in the 2013 elections.
Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes said up to 7 incumbent party-list lawmakers could be disqualified by the poll body soon.
