Churches toll bells to protest pork barrel
MANILA -- Some churches across the country simultaneously rang their bells for a full three minutes past 1 p.m. Friday to symbolize their clamor for the abolition of the priority development assistance fund (PDAF) and the disbursement acceleration program (DAP).
The Sta. Cruz Church in Manila was among the churches that participated in the activity.
Prior to the event, a holy mass was held.
The ringing of bells was organized by the Church People's Alliance Against the Pork Barrel, a coalition of Catholic clergy, religious groups and the laity.
Its convenor, Fr. Ben Alforque, said the ringing of church bells represents a call to the country's leaders to repent and stop stealing money from the people.
