The Department of Agriculture's National Meat Inspection Services (NMIS) on Tuesday named four Chinese brands of processed meat products that are being tested for possible melamine contamination.

NMIS executive director Jane Bacayo said they have submitted samples of Ma Ling Luncheon Meat, Gulong Pork Luncheon Meat, Great Wall corned beef and another brand called Narcisos, to private laboratories for melamine contamination tests.

Bacayo said all four products were imported from China.

He said the NMIS submitted the samples to private laboratories last week and they expect the results to come out Wednesday or Thursday.

The NMIS started testing China-made meat products after the Bureau of Food and Drugs announced that its laboratories are testing milk and milk-based products from China only.

Bacayo said the NMIS submitted the meat products' samples to private laboratories because BFAD laboratories are already flooded with milk and milk-based products samples.

The BFAD has found three China-made milk products positive with melamine and cleared a total of 110 milk and milk-based products.

The bureau issued a fourth batch of cleared products Tuesday.
