Baligod: Benhur is gay but he's not into immoral sexual acts
We want Kapunan accountable for calling Luy names, says lawyer
MANILA - Except for the fact that whistleblower Benhur Luy is gay, the other allegations about him aren't true, his lawyer said.
In an interview with ABS-CBN’s Bottomline, lawyer Levito Baligod said his client has been called a “drug addict," and that he allegedly engages in “immoral sexual conduct.”
He said “we will, in due time, ask [lawyers Lorna Kapunan and Bruce Rivera] to account for their utterances [against Luy].”
Asked by showbiz host Boy Abunda if Luy is gay, Baligod said: “He is, but he’s not into immoral sexual conduct. What I know is he’s very religious. How do they know he’s into immoral activities? Are they Peeping Toms?”
Baligod said they are now preparing other pieces of evidence to prove Luy was illegally detained early this year, which prompted the latter to reveal what he knows about the pork barrel scam.
“There was no chance he could escape. We will soon describe the physical set-up of the Magallanes [Village] house [where Luy was allegedly detained],” he said.
Baligod noted that in the counter-affidavits of Napoles and her brother Reynald, both admitted to Luy's detention, he claimed.
Meanwhile, Baligod said he has asked Justice Secretary Leila de Lima to suggest that the whistleblowers' testimonies "be [gathered] via a deposition.”
He said this is also to help the whistleblowers, some of whom are being fed and housed by him and his law firm partners.
Only three of the whistleblowers are under the Witness Protection Program.
Baligod believes the whistleblowers will not repudiate later their testimonies.
“They have the motivation to rectify their wrongdoings, unlike other whistleblowers who had a brush with politics.”
The whistleblowers also underwent reflection for two weeks before they went public.
