Brillantes denies Llamas' interference in Akbayan case
MANILA - Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. confirmed Akbayan Rep. Walden Bello talked to him to inquire about the status of Akbayan, which is being petitioned to be delisted from the party-list elections.
He said he merely informed Bello that their case is still under study. He denied any hand on the part of Presidential Adviser for Political Affairs Ronald Llamas to save the group.
Llamas is a former head of Akbayan party.
Brillantes said the poll body will discuss the review of the party-list accreditations of Akbayan and other groups on Wednesday.
He said the poll body has been divided on the issue of the accreditation.
Brillantes said Akbayan is a multisectoral group, but this in itself is not a ground for disqualification.
Brillantes called on all election stakeholders to just wait for the decision of the poll body.
