India, Philippines in bilateral talks
MANILA - Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid met Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario during his two-day visit in Manila on Monday for a bilateral meeting aimed at improving economic and security ties between nations.
Representatives from the Philippines and India attended the second Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation, an initiative started in 2011 that aims to promote bilateral exchanges between the countries in the fields of security, defense, and trade.
Khurshid and Del Rosario are also expected to discuss regional and international issues such as maritime security cooperation.
Bilateral trade between India and the Philippines reached $1.4 billion in 2012.
After the meeting, Khurshid will be heading a lecture on India's foreign policies to government and civil service officials on Tuesday before leaving Manila.
