PNoy won't name anointed one for now
MANILA (UPDATE) - President Aquino declined to name who he would endorse in the 2016 elections as his preferred successor.
Speaking at a forum with the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP), Aquino said he wants to spare his “anointed one” from attacks of political enemies.
“If I answer your question, I’ll just have this guy...guy or girl, have a bulls-eye painted in his forehead and saying, ‘Please attack me for the attack almost three years.’ So I think I will spare this group of people.”
Asked what qualities he would want to see in his successor, Aquino said he wants to see the accomplishments of his administration improved upon.
“At the end of the day, I think they will have to address that which has all already been asked of me, ‘What will happen after you step down?’ Then obviously, you’d want somebody not just to continue but perhaps, improve on what has already been accomplished. In effect, we’re asking them to step up higher given that they’ll be starting at a higher plane,” he said.
