Erap won't run for president in 2016
MANILA, Philippines - Former President Joseph Estrada on Monday said he will no longer seek the presidency in the 2016 election.
Asked if he is interested in running again in the next presidential election, he said: "No, no, no. I just want to help in whatever capacity I can."
On the other hand, he became cryptic when asked about his alleged plan to run for mayor of Manila.
"No, not yet. I never announced anything," he said.
A famous movie actor, Estrada was mayor of San Juan City for many years before being elected senator in 1987 and then vice-president in 1992.
In 1998, he was elected president of the Philippines but was removed from office after a 4-day bloodless revolt in 2001.
Last year, he again ran for president but only came in second after Liberal Party bet and current President Benigno Aquino III.
