MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday suspended classes on Tuesday in all public elementary and high schools nationwide.

DepEd chief Armin Luistro said the suspension was made to give teachers a time to rest after serving as members of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) during Monday's barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

For schools where elections have been postponed to October 26, classes are suspended on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The DepEd, in their official Twitter account, also said that it is "the discretion of the management" of private schools if they will suspend classes, particularly in private schools used as polling centers. Report from Niña Corpuz, ABS-CBN News
