Osme├▒a solves dynasty riddle: House first
Political dynasties more prevalent among House members, says Serge
MANILA, Philippines - For any anti-political dynasty bill to succeed, Sen. Sergio Osmeña believes it has to be passed at the House of Representatives first.
Osmeña told reporters on Thursday that political dynasties are most prevalent among members of the House. He said many congressmen and congresswomen themselves belong to dynasties.
He recalled that a Senate bill banning political dynasties was passed at the committee level in 1995. But it did not get support from the House.
"We called our counterpart in the House. 'Ano, ipapasa ba ninyo ito?' Sabi niya, 'Don't bother to send us this bill. That will never be able to pass the House,'" Osmeña said.
Osmeña said he would support an anti-political dynasty bill that the House has already passed.
"Get it passed in the House first. It will pass the Senate," he said.
