PNP all set for barangay polls
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it is all set for the barangay elections on Monday.
PNP spokesman Sr. Supt. Reuben Sindac told ANC on Sunday that most of their personnel are already in place, while the rest will head to their assigned areas within the day.
The PNP has been on full alert status since last Friday.
“As you troop to the polls, your PNP will be ever present and just outside the polling centers to extend utmost assistance and provide you protection,” said Sindac. “Be vigilant against people who will seek to make a mockery of the electoral process through fraud and deceit.”
“Resist any attempt to deny you of your right in exchange for cash or other harassment or pressure. Exercise your right without fear or favor.”
Meanwhile, some policemen who will be taking over as Board of Election tellers in the ARMM have already been briefed.
The policemen will replace more than 900 teachers who refused to serve in the polls, citing security reasons.
“Some forces or PNP personnel from the NCRPO as well as in Region 4A were sent to Maguindanao to act as Special Board of Election Tellers for the barangay elections,” Sindac said.
“They moved out by land since Friday and have arrived yesterday in their place of assignment, and were given orientations in conducting Board of Election Tellers’ duties,” he added. -- Report from ANC
