Press Secretary Jesus Dureza shrugged off the call of Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippine (CBCP) President Angel Lagdameo and four other Catholic church leaders for drastic political reforms and the need to prepare for a new government.

"He [Lagdameo] is entitled to his own opinion," Dureza said.

He said political matters like the deportation of Agriculture Undersecretary Jocelyn 'Jocjoc' Bolante and the new impeachment complaint filed against President Arroyo were not taken up in a Cabinet meeting Tuesday morning.

Dureza said the Palace is preoccupied with addressing the global financial turmoil.

Dominating the Palace's agenda were pro-poor livelihood and emergency employment projects for vulnerable people and poorest families, the decision to use P4.5-billion Value-Added Tax (VAT) windfall or "katas ng VAT" of the past quarter, and current issues confronting the stock market.

Asked whether Bolante was discussed in the cabinet, Dureza said, "Hindi napag-uusapan yan sa Cabinet."

Is the President worried about Bolante's arrival? "It doesn't show," he added-- report from WILLARD CHENG, ABS-CBN News
