'Euro generals' return travel money

Seven police generals who were implicated in the Russia "euro scandal" promised Philippine National Police Director General Jesus Versoza on Thursday that they will return P274,070.00 each in travel allowances received for the International Police Assembly in St. Petersburg earlier this month.
As of posting time, Chief Superintendent Nicanor Bartolome, PNP spokesman, said that one of the generals already has returned the full amount while another brought P100,000, promising to pay the rest within a month.
"Police Director Silverio Alarcio Jr, Director for Operations, returned the full amount of P274,070.00, while Police Director German Doria, Director for Human Resource and Doctrine Development (DHRDD) returned the partial amount of P100,000.00 with a promissory note to return the balance within 30 days," Bartolome said.
The amount returned were properly acknowledged by the special disbursing officer of the PNP Finance Service, Superintendent Samuel Rodriguez, Bartolome said.
Versoza, meanwhile, said that the seven active duty generals will be reimbursed after their corresponding claims are processed and audited.
"Should anyone of them feel they are entitled to reimbursement of expenses, they may file the corresponding claims following the normal accounting and auditing procedures," the PNP chief said.
On Monday, Verzosa ordered the seven active duty officials to return the entire amount received from the PNP Finance Service.
The PNP chief also encouraged retired Director Eliseo dela Paz to do the same "considering that the procedure involved in the release of this amount is questionable."
De la Paz has promised to return the funds he received while Deputy Director General Emmanuel Carta and the rest are expected to return the funds on Monday, November 3.
Bartolome said the PNP officials involved have started submitting the necessary papers for liquidation of their expenses.
