MANILA - The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) on Saturday afternoon said it expects "a state of normalcy" on All Saints' Day as its personnel continue to work on restoring power supply in areas affected by typhoon Santi (international name Mirinae).

"Based on field reports we are receiving, we expect to reach a state of normalcy by tomorrow, Sunday (November 1)," Meralco senior vice president Alex Evangelista said in a statement.

Meralco said that as of 3 p.m., 70 circuits or 10.25 percent of the 683 circuits remained powerless.

In its earlier update, the company said a total of 1.6 million registered customers were affected by the power outages in portions of Manila, Makati, Parañaque, Taguig, Quezon City, Marikina, Laguna, Rizal, Quezon province and Cavite.

"Felled trees, down poles and wires, damaged electrical equipment and other debris that hit our facilities were the reasons behind the outages,"  Meralco external communication manager Joe Zaldarriaga said in a statement.

Zaldarriaga said the company's workers will work round-the-clock to restore power in areas affected by the typhoon.

He also appealed for assistance from concerned agencies of the government to help them remove the typhoon's debris in affected areas to "speed up restoration work."

The power outage also affected the operations of Light Rail Transit Line 1 and the Metro Rail Transit. Both lines resumed operations before noon.
