MANILA, Philippines - Palace officials are still free to use social networking sites despite the diplomatic gaffe recently committed by one of them during President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino's state visit to Vietnam.

In an interview with radio dzRB on Sunday, Presidential deputy spokesperson Abigail Valte noted, however, that the supposedly rude tweets posted by Assistant Secretary Maria Carmen Mislang would be included in the "post-mortem analysis" of the Vietnam trip.

Mislang, one of the President's speechwriter, was part of the contingent to Vietnam.

While there, she posted in her Twitter account “The wine sucks” after the state banquet hosted by Vietnam President Nguyen Minh Triet in honor of Aquino.

She also tweeted: “Sorry pero walang pogi dito #vietnam.” (Sorry, there are no handsome men here.)

She also posted: “Crossing the speedy motorcycle laden streets of Hanoi is one of the easiest ways to die.”

Mislang apologized in her Facebook account after she was reprimanded. Her Twitter account, on the other hand, has reportedly been deactivated.

“The President has not issued any directive that we should stop using Twitter or Facebook. We have been using these social networking sites for feedback mechanism. It allows people to give us their views on certain matters," Valte said.

She said Mislang’s faux pas will be discussed when Aquino arrives from Vietnam.

Twitting by Government Officials

The twitter of the government official in a foreign land on an official mission is really uncalled for. It is taxing the hospitality of the host country. Remember the foreign actress who talked about rats in her room in the country, she was lambasted and declared persona non grata.
It is good that the Vietnamese are more civil and kinder by simply ignoring the incident.
Government officials must be careful when they use social networking specially if they are out on an official mission for their statements and comments reflect that of the government/country that they represent.
We hope that another actuation of this kind will be avoided in the future.

unfit ship captain's crew

This none-sense speechwriter signifies the Philippines has really no more left professional inside the country. That kind of immorality already penetrated the President’s office, dressed with professional cloths, speaks lousy English but not behave like the one. Office like the head of the country should have no difficulties of finding tough professionals for the positions, seems there’s lacking of right effort and guidelines to build the team for this kind. A single piece of non-sense person can bring-down the whole country from different aspects which are irreversible and becoming more tolerable. PNoy has more years to come at the office and yet 2 times shameful act of Filipino against international moral standard for less than a year is a wake up call. Things like these once happened again and neglected by the office of the President, really no more professional at the country as the moral point of view of other than Filipinos.

works for the opposition

I think mai mislang secretly works for the opposition and derailed president Noy's first trip to vietnam. minata niya ang vietnam na halos kasing pulubi ng bayan natin.
mai probably hates Noy's tight budget and austerity measures, pining for the good old days of gloria arroyo where money was no problem and on trips abroad, they just spend, spend, spend.

hahahahahaha

Posible...mukhang hindi rin pahuhuli ng buhay eh.
