MANILA, Philippines - The judge that convicted an American soldier for raping a Filipina in the controversial Subic rape case is now vying for the position of Associate Justice of the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA).
Makati City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Benjamin Pozon, who convicted Lance Corp. Daniel Smith for the rape of "Nicole" in December 2006, is one of several candidates for the judicial post.
The vacancy at the CTA is due to the compulsory retirement of Presiding Justice Ernesto Acosta, who retires on Dec. 21.
Other candidates for CTA Associate Justice are: Lovell R. Bautista, Juanito Castaneda Jr., Leandro Catalo, Georgina Hidalgo, Roman Del Rosario and Philbert Iturralde.
The candidates will be interviewed by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) on Nov. 12.
