Tagle celebrates first mass as cardinal-designate
MANILA, Philippines – Manila Archbishop Luis Tagle called on the Catholic faithful to renew their faith as he celebrated his first mass as cardinale-designate.
He arrived just last Thursday from Rome where the Pope announced that he was elevated into the College of Cardinals.
Even his 82-year-old father came all the way from Cavite just to be a part of his son's first mass as a cardinal.
Parishioners were eager to congratulate Tagle even before the mass started.
In his homily, the Cardinal launched the Year of Faith, calling for renewed faith in God.
The Cardinal says he was elated with his new appointment, though he admits he is also terrified with the burden of responsibility the position carries.
“Terrified, kasi you know you are not worthy, you know you are a sinner, you know you are weak and you know that with grace comes a mission,” he said.
For now, the archdiocese is just waiting for the official schedule when Tagle will go back to Rome and attend the formal ceremony for his appointment. -- ANC
