A former staunch ally of President Arroyo has endorsed, through the Philippine Consulate in San Francisco, USA, an impeachment complaint filed against her to the Philippine Congress.
Former House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. endorsed the impeachment complaint against the president last Monday afternoon.
”If I am true to my call for moral revolution, I must sustain this impeachment complaint, in order to cleanse the government and Philippine society,” said De Venecia who is Pangasinan 4th district representative.
De Venecia wanted to ensure that the impeachment complaint makes it before the opening of Congress on November 10.
“I have no anger against President Arroyo,” he said.
He said that the move to endorse the complaint is for the Filipino people and not about his family or his son Jose “Joey” De Venecia III who is the lead complainant in the latest impeachment rap against Mrs. Arroyo.
“We’re up to here already. Hindi na natin matiis. Sobra na. Sobrang, sobra na,” said De Venecia.
De Venecia is confident that the impeachment complaint will succeed because it contains strong charges against Mrs. Arroyo including the controversial ZTE-National Broadband Network deal, the Northrail project, the fertilizer scam and the “Hello, Garci” scandal.
De Venecia was joined by Filipino American leaders from Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN-USA) and the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns.
In a text message to abs-cbnNEWS.com from BAYAN Secretary General Renato Reyes, he said that Filipino activists have expressed their support for the charges of human rights abuses and corruption against Mrs. Arroyo.
“People say that she’ll be out of office in 2010. But the change needs to happen now and so we support the filing of impeachment complaint,” said Rhona Ramiro, Bayan-USA representative.
Meanwhile, De Venecia said he will continue to be of service to the Filipino and denied that he is eyeing the presidency in 2010. Reports from Henni Espinosa, ABS-CBN News, San Francisco, California
