Villar 'in final stages' of selecting VP bet

MANILA - Sen. Manuel "Manny" Villar is in the "final stages" of selecting his running mate for his presidential bid in 2010.
In an interview with Ricky Carandang on ANC's The Big Picture, Villar said that he has already chosen "in his mind" who his running mate will be.
"Well sa mind ko... Meron naman na akong napili na. Ito naman ay hindi ko pa puwede sabihin," Villar said in the interview, aired on Thursday.
He also said that their talks with the potential vice-presidential bet are already in the final stages.
Villar also clarified his stance on selecting a vice-presidential bet only at this time, saying that it is important for the Nacionalista Party to choose who really is bent on running for the post.
He said that if they selected his running mate earlier, they could have missed out on other potential candidates who would surface.
He also hinted that the person he chose formerly wanted to run for the presidency.
"Oo. Masasabi kong oo," Villar said when pressed by Carandang. However, he hesitated to specify if the 'chosen one' is a "boy" or a "girl."
"No comment diyan... no conclusions sa gender," Villar said.
He added that their target date of revealing his pick for his running mate is around November 15, when the NP officially proclaims their slate for the 2010 elections.
He declined to give further clues to the identity of his chosen partner.
