CAAP suspends Robredo plane inspector
MANILA, Philippines - The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Wednesday placed on 90-day preventive suspension a CAAP inspector who cleared the aircraft of the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.
The CAAP, in a press statement, said Fernando Abalos gave the green light on the test flight results for the Piper Seneca plane boarded by Robredo's group on August 18, 2012.
A CAAP team discovered that that the test flight results of the aircraft were falsified.
Abalos did no actual test flight before issuing an airworthiness certificate for the aircraft, the agency said.
He may face criminal and administrative liabilities as a result of full investigation of the incident, the CAAP warned.
President Benigno Aquino on Tuesday made public the initial findings made by a CAAP team on the plane crash that killed Robredo and 2 others in the waters of Masbate. http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/nation/11/13/12/%E2%80%98pilot-error-fraud-re...
CAAP Deputy Director General John Cu Unjieng Andrews signed Abalos' suspension order.
“This preventive suspension order is not a penalty but is a cautionary measure so that the government official involved may not be able to influence witnesses or to tamper with the records,” he said.
Abalos will be accorded due process, he added.
