PNoy sick, cancels meeting with IMF chief
MANILA - President Aquino called in sick Friday morning, prompting him to cancel his meeting with International Monetary Fund (IMF) managing director Christine Lagarde.
Vice President Jejomar Binay subbed for Aquino and met Lagarde at the Coconut Palace.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said Aquino “was not feeling well.”
“Nagpilit din po si Pangulo to see kung kakayanin po ng kondisyon niya. He’s really not feeling well. In the end, noong dumating po ‘yung 9 AM, nagsabi na po na the President unfortunately cannot receive Madame Lagarde,” Valte told reporters.
Budget Secretary Butch Abad said Aquino had a hoarse voice, a day after being exposed to a sudden change in the weather Thursday.
He said the weather was hot when Aquino attended the foundation day in Occidental Mindoro in the morning and had to proceed to chilly Tagaytay to speak before the management conference of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas.
Valte said state papers will instead be brought to Aquino’s official residence, Bahay Pangarap.
Aquino will also be preparing for the ASEAN summit. He is scheduled to leave for Cambodia Saturday night.
