BF unfazed by 1% popularity
MANILA - Despite his low survey ratings and not having been chosen by his own political party, Bayani Fernando (BF) said he will be resigning from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to run for president in 2010.
"There is no turning back. Definitely I'm resigning soon...," Fernando said in a statement, adding that he may run as an independent presidential candidate.
He said that even without experience in national governance, he is confident that he can "manage" the country just like how he ran the MMDA.
Aware of his poor popularity rating in recent presidential surveys, Fernando urged voters to do away "with what is popular."
"The country cannot progress through popularity, sympathy and emotions," he said, adding that people should vote for someone who "will know what to do on Day One."
Fernando, an old-timer in the ruling Lakas-Kampi-CMD party, lost to party newcomer Gilbert Teodoro in his bid to become the administration party's standard bearer.
The MMDA chief and Teodoro have both been lagging behind in presidential surveys.
Fernando placed 7th in the latest Pulse Asia eight-way presidential survey garnering only 1 percent. He was statistically tied with Teodoro and evangelist Eduardo 'Bro. Eddie' Villanueva of the Jesus Is Lord.
Teodoro placed 6th with only 2 percent.
The survey was conducted October 22 to 30 with a plus/minus 2% margin of error. It used face-to-face field interviews with 1,800 respondents.
Topping the survey was Liberal Party presidential candidate Sen. Benigno 'Noynoy' Aquino with 44%, followed by the Nacionalista Party's Sen. Manuel Villar with 19%
Sen. Francis Escudero was on 3rd place with 13%, statistically tied with former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada, who got 11%.

P1-B flood warning system wasted due to neglect
MANILA - Expensive flood warning equipment and devices have been rendered idle and put to waste because of neglect following the transfer of flood control from the public works department to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
The idle equipment could have mitigated the deluge brought about by tropical storm Ondoy in Metro Manila.
Abs-cbnnews.com/Newsbreak learned that a flood warning system from Japan amounting to P1.1 billion has been rendered useless because of neglect, indifference or simply lack of foresight.

NEGLECTED FLOOD WARBING SYSTEM = TENS OF BILLIONS OF DAMAGES
That's compared to the cost of the equipment. The MMFF is not a big deal anyway. Aside from lack of foresight, he also lacks willpower & lacks the ability to convince the people in flood prone areas that they needed to get out of there. He should have coordinated earlier & should have asked the government's help to find the safest relocation centers as early as possible. As i have said, lack of foresight.
He would have made a difference but he did not. He instead made a mockery of himself. His party does not even support an imbecile like him.
