Bongbong says Marcos legacy will help him win

Posted at 11/17/2009 8:04 PM | Updated as of 11/17/2009 9:06 PM

MANILA - Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is running for the Senate, and he's counting on his late father's “goodwill” to make him win.

“I have been benefiting from the goodwill of my father. I have no doubt I will continue to benefit. Nandiyan pa rin ang kaniyang supporters. They are as enthusiastic, as competent, and as good as they ever were. Napakaswerte ko naman na ang aking ama ay naaalala pa at minamahal,” Marcos told House reporters on Wednesday.

Marcos was asked if there's any fear that voters would not choose him because of the record of his father's martial law government, and he replied: “It's the contrary. Wala naman ako nararamdaman na lugi kami in any way."

Bongbong's sister, former Rep. Imee Marcos, is confident the voters will appreciate their track record. She joined her brother in the press conference.

“There's a great deal said about the Marcos legacy. The proof of the pudding is in Bong and I's service. We served more than a decade, unbesmirched by any corruption scandal. Wala naman nasasabing ganon,” Imee said.

Bongbong said fighting corruption is, in fact, one of his core advocacies.

“Do I have the moral ascendancy? Of course. Even the worst critics of my father's administration would admit there was nothing. May salbahe talaga, pero hindi ganito na institutionalized. Magnakaw ka kasi yun ang inuutos ng mga boss,” Marcos said.

According to the latest Pulse Asia survey conducted October 22 to 30, 18.4% Filipinos said they will vote for Marcos, ranking him 16th among possible senatorial candidates. He has a national awareness rating of 97%. His television advertisements are already being shown.

Coalition with NP in the works

Marcos said he was invited to become a “guest candidate” in three opposition parties—Nacionalista Party (NP) of Senator Manuel Villar, Puwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) of former President Joseph Estrada, and the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) of former Ambassador Eduardo 'Danding' Cojuangco Jr..

But he said he is working out a coalition with one of the political parties, knowing that he needs a dedicated political party who can give him the “best support.” Marcos didn't name the political party, but according to NP insiders, Marcos is already a shoo-in for the party.

“Maganda na yan. Guest ka sa lahat. Pero kung practical, hindi pwede ganon. Kailangan pumili ng partido. You have to have one group na pwede mong samahan sa lakad. Malaking bagay ang machinery, also for protection. If this is on lesson I learned in 1995, kailangan matibay-tibay ang organization mo para boto mo hindi mawala,” Marcos said.

Marcos ran for senator in 1995, but lost. He claimed he was cheated.

The Marcos siblings spoke highly of Lakas-Kampi presidential candidate Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, but they dismissed any possibility of running with the administration.

“Awang-awa ako kay Gibo. Nanghinhinayang ako sa kanya. Bakit napasubo sya. Maling panig,” said Imee, who worked with Teodoro during the days of the Kabataang Barangay.

“He's a good guy. Malaki respeto namin sa pagkatao nya. We simply don't agree with what the administration has done. The administration has very much to answer for,” said Bongbong.

Noynoy's senator?

Marcos said he is open to joining the senatorial ticket of the Liberal Party as “guest candidate.” LP is fielding Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III. Their fathers were arch political enemies before and during martial law.

“Bakit hindi? Napakatibay naman ng sitwasyon ko kung sa apat na kandidato ay guest candidate ako. That will put me in a good position. Kung makadagdag ng support groups, bakit hindi?” Marcos said.

But there are no invitations. “Nag-aantay ako ng tawag. Walang tumamawag. I'm waiting by the phone for the telephone call to come. Thus far, wala pa. To be a guest candidate, you have to be invited. The invitation has not been coming. But it's not really a great surprise,” Marcos said.

“We have been at the wrong end of vindictiveness. The lessons we learned from that experience, dapat hindi personalan. Trabaho ang pamamahala,” Bongbong said.

I prefer Marcos legacy over Cory legacy

I prefer Marcos over Cory if you ask me.
While they are complete opposites, i'll still go with Action (Marcos) over Inaction (Cory). Corruption? Neither Cory was exempted from it. Nor did she reverse our fate after Marcos or reacquire all the golds and dollar deposits smuggled out of the country by the Marcos's.

Action.
Inaction.

Mr. Marcos , what legacy you're talking about ,are you proud of what your father done in our country, Yes he done a lot of good job but it was just a start for a horrible life for Filipinos. He ruined the whole peoples freedom ,he started corruptions which uprotted the wealth of poor Pilipinas.

Lord of the Corrupt

What the hell Bongbong Marcos can prove? For you and other people’s kids’ sake and for the love of country, did he stop his father destroying this country? Or, mother squandering our nation’s wealth? How well did he wish his father be president for life so he himself could benefit the billions of dollars his parents robbed? How high was he jumping and cheering that the AFP will shot and kill the demonstrators during People Power 1? He was the Vice Governor from 1980 to 1983 in Ilocos Norte. As public servant and much more as a public official the duty to enforce the law is paramount. Did he enforce the law or was he a felony? His parents went into a criminal spree thinking they were cool.
That time was his chance but where was he? Now, in God’s name if he’ll be in the senate, would it be appropriate that a son of a robber telling people not to rob? Or telling not to buy luxurious shoes and amass huge wealth? If he cannot clean his own backyard, what the hell can he do to a 7,200 island country? EVERYTHING IS HYPOCRITE ISN’T IT? How cheap are you to buy a rotten apple? Or, how far can an apple fall further from a tree?
Did you know that the Marcoses and Romualdes are still on the mood of corruption until now? Did you wonder why Imelda did not go to jail? Or, most of cases against them failed? Or, Congressman Romualdes allegedly paid around 1,000,000 pesos dinner at Le Cirque in New York or his interests associating with GMA?
As an OFW, I consider myself as self exile because I was robbed and deprived by the Marcoses and Romualdes of a decent and better future. Now, look at yourself, can you justify that? Are you happy? Or, you deserved it? Gave them another try? Is your life and others a gamble?
Let Ilocos be the republic of the Ilocanos. Enough is enough and in fact they should be punished.
To politicians, the Marcoses and Romualdes are the ideal family to have. They robbed billions and get away with it. They run for politics and won. Look at the Arroyo, almost similar. The Arroyo’s and Marcoses are somehow related that is why they conspire and sabotage the country and escape the criminal punishment.
Expect them to win this election. Yet, people are complaining...........
What do you think the Philippines would be if Ferdinand Marcos left after his first term of being the president?
Ferdinand Marcos has done worst than good. Ferdinand Marcos should have never been a president of the Philippines.
By voting to the Marcoses and Romualdes, we are sending a message that corruption is good and can easily get away with. There is no shame and history will repeat itself as is now with GMA.
If we cannot reconcile the past and present the Philippines have no future to look into. The Marcoses, Romualdes and the Arroyo’s had their time and enough is enough. We need someone that has less risks and baggage’s.
DOWN WITH THE MARCOSES
DOWN WITH THE ROMUALDES
DOWN WITH THE ARROYO’S

I beg to disagree with some

I beg to disagree with some of the posters here.

Indeed it's true that even if Marcos has already gone long time ago, we are still stuck with poverty, no improvements and has even worsen. It's because he has done a lot of shitty things that even the next two generations have to harvest its fruits. The debts he's left us would take us decades to settle.

It's not all about Aquino-Marcos clans clash.

It's about what has Marcos and his cronies has done to us. Marcos is the root cause of our poverty.

A great teacher of our present trapos. He's sparked in their hearts the desire to run not to serve, but to become rich, to plunder, to rob and run away from it unstained and unpunished. Who could possibly disagree with it watching how these so called public servants extravagantly run their lifestyles. Ask any child of one word to describe our politicians and you'll get a unanimous answer- MAGNANAKAW.

And Marcos' cronies- most of them are still lurking around and still actively controlling us. Until these people are lost, gone or changed, this cancer we are suffering will never subside.

Now that I think of it, I'm starting to feel too helpless. I feel apathetic to participate this coming election because it'll just be same thing. Others even have this mentality to pick the less evil.

But I will not abandon hope. I will cling to it.

The hope, to one day see true leaders who will take this nation somewhere. The hope that one day, our graduates and professionals no longer feel the need to go abroad. The hope that no more children have to sleep on the street side, to sniff rugby just to temporarily forget their hunger and escape from the painful reality they are in. The hope to one day see the smile of satisfaction and happiness be seen to everyone's face.

We must not abandon our hope. For our parents. For ourselves. For our siblings. And for the coming generations.

Your father is the father of

Your father is the father of corruption in the highest form. He was brilliant. The people should have been elated, had he used it wisely and geniunely served the nation. We would have been richer than Singapore now.
But he wasted his brain to do evil things- to enrich your family, to provide you mother all her whims and shitty extravagance and enrich his cronies.

Your father is the father of corruption in the highest form. If he's left a legacy of suffering, poverty and debts to millions of Filipinos, he's left to the present TRAPOS the wisdom to plunder, corrupt and ways on how to do it cleanly. Ask Arroyo and her f@ckIng cronies. They'd benefited a lot from it.

STOP being so fool. If you really want to help us, do us a favor to NOT run for any national post, please.

Sino makakapagcompare?

Ang punto ni coasterride ay (kung may isip na kayo nung panahon ni marcos) can you compare the cost of living (Marcos vs Cory vs Present). Can you compare the peso vs dollar exchange rate (Marcos vs cory vs Present). Can you compare Philippine debt (Marcos vs Cory vs Present). Can you compare exports (Marcos vs Cory vs Present). Can you compare how many companies were owned by government/people (Marcos vs Cory vs Present). Can you compare poverty/squatters/cost of education/cost of basic needs (Marcos vs Cory vs Present) and can you compare the foreign respect to Filipinos (Marcos vs Cory vs Present).

Privatization ba?

This Marcos.. Your father's

This Marcos.. Your father's f@ckIng legacy?!

Are you trying to ridicule the memories of those Filipinos who've suffered and died because of your father's deeds?!

If there are legacies he's left for the new generation, it's SEVERE POVERTY.

BILLIONS OF DEBTS.

CORRUPTION.

BRUTAL EXECUTIONS.

If Noynoy rekindles hope in every Filipino's heart, you Marcos' rekindles the hatred and pain your father brought to the nation! You must be thankful the Ilocos constituents may still love you, maybe because they had not suffered as much during your father's regime. That does not mean though, you are loved by the entire nation. Enough of your daydream.

I sure hope LP wont take you even as a guest candidate because you will definitely be a major setback, a STAIN, for them!

If I were you, just continue serving your province. DON'T vie for any national post!
