De Lima, PNoy to discuss BuCor chief's fate
MANILA, Philippines – Justice Secretary Leila de Lima on Monday said she will discuss soon with President Aquino the results of the investigation conducted on Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Gaudencio Pangilinan.
Pangilinan is accused of violating bidding regulations, overspending BuCor funds, and giving special treatment to some wealthy inmates, particularly murder convict Rolito Go.
The embattled BuCor chief went on leave at the height of the Rolito Go abduction scandal where the high-profile inmate went missing inside the New Bilibid Prison's premises last August 14. He reappeared more than 24 hours later and said he was kidnapped inside the prison.
The National Bureau of Investigation has since filed kidnapping and serious illegal detention charges against ten people allegedly involved in the abduction of Go and his nephew, Clemence Yu.
De Lima said she and Aquino will discuss if Pangilinan will be replaced.
"Director Pangilinan is on leave. President Aquino and I will talk. Mayroon na akong report na on Pangilinan. Pag-uusapan na natin kung ano na bang mangyayari kay Pangilinan. Kung 'di na sya (Pangilinan) ibabalik maghahanap na tayo ng replacement," she told dzMM.
Manuel Co was named BuCor officer-in-charge following Pangilinan's filing of leave last August.
