MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - A Pasay regional trial court judge on Monday granted former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's request to stay under hospital arrest while awaiting trial for electoral sabotage.

Judge Jesus Mupas of Pasay RTC branch 112 today approved the temporary hospital arrest of former President Arroyo pending the manifestations of the defense and prosecution.

Aside from this, deliberations on the other motions filed before the court were postponed to allow both sides to register their comments.

Still pending is the motion filed by the Commission on Elections asking for a hold departure order (HDO) against Mrs. Arroyo. The defense for their part has filed a motion seeking to suspend proceedings. They also objected to the arrest warrant issued by the court and the possible issuance of a HDO.

The court also clarified that the mugshots of the former president will not be released unless both the prosecution and defense agree.

Clerk of Court Joel Pelicano defended the "quick" issuance of a warrant of arrest against Arroyo last week, saying he thinks this was still "slow".

The next hearing is set on Friday.
