First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo returned to Manila Saturday afternoon and was immediately rushed to St. Luke's Medical Center in Quezon City.
Initial reports said Mr. Arroyo arrived on board a private plane owned by industrialist Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco Jr. past 2 p.m.
From the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Mr. Arroyo was immediately brought to St. Luke's Medical Center.
Deputy presidential spokesman Anthony Golez refused to confirm if Mr. Arroyo would be brought to the hospital but said that the first gentleman would get proper medical treatment upon his return.
"He is very well taken care off by his personal physicians who know his medical history. Let;'s hope for the best," Golez told reporters.
Arroyo had "intense stomach pain" Friday evening on board a Philippine Air Lines plane while he, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the rest of the Philippine delegation were on their way to Peru for the APEC leaders' meeting.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said Mr. Arroyo's ailment forced the chartered PAL flight to make an emergency stop over in Japan Friday night.
Doctors of the First Gentleman in the Philippines later left for Osaka, Japan to help attend to Mr. Arroyo, Ermita said.
On April 9, 2007, Mr. Arroyo underwent a successful ten-hour open heart surgery after being diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm. After the operation, he has been undergoing weekly therapy at St. Luke's Medical Center.
